BECKVILLE FIELDS OF FAITH 2022

It was a privilege and an honor to be asked to participate in the Beckville FCA Fields of Faith on October, 12, 2022! Having worked with numerous sports teams in Beckville for the past four years, I was asked to present and guide the response time following the message. The worship was lead by students, most of whom are athletes. Dan Reed, with FCA brought the message and the prayer time following the message was a blessing to behold. With very little direction small groups formed and began to pray for their friends, family and community. May the seeds planted truly grow into a field of faith in the days to come!

CAMP EXTREME BLESSING 2022

Camp Extreme Blessing was offered to a group of 50+ athletes on January 4, 2022. The process presented to these athletes was a four tier process consisting of six weeks each. Each tier had a set of goals some predetermined and some the athletes set for themselves. One of the predetermined goals was that there would be absolutely no electronics allowed on the trip. As each tier was completed the numbers declined until the last tier was completed. At the end of the fourth tier, there were 21 athletes that had completed the tiers successfully. When the final invitation to attend the camp was offered some had family conflicts and some chose not to attend if they could not take their electronic devises. There were 11 athletes who took advantage of the Extreme Blessing and committed to attend the camp. The camp was held at Camp Akiva near Emory, Texas. The camp was attended by the 11 athletes, 3 coaches and 5 male mentors. During the camp the athletes were challenged in low and high rope challenge courses, multiple interactive sessions, small group devotions and processing opportunities, swimming, creative games, and black light dodgeball. There were three sessions offered on leadership principles found in I Samuel 16 & 17. The final Extreme, Extreme Blessing for this group was the opportunity to experience Texas De Brazil Steakhouse. We spent nearly 3 hours eating, laughing and enjoying each other during the final evening together.

We are now 5 months removed from the camp and these 11 young men have stepped up to be leaders on their football teams and are making an impact on the field and in the classroom. Of these 11 young men, 9 are on a varsity team and are headed into the first round of the playoffs as the number two team in the district.

BECKVILLE SOFTBALL TEAM BUILDING EVENT

In April of 2022, Beckville softball coaches requested a team building opportunity during their bye week.  We were able to meet this need by challenging the team with numerous activities that increased with intensity through the afternoon.  The challenges utilized were named Willow in the Wind, Levitation, Cocoa River, Spider Web and Mountain Tops.  The girls and coaches were excited about the break in practice and new challenges to work together and grow as a team.  Immediately following the event a conversation was had concerning future team building opportunities with other teams in the district.  Praise God for opportunities to invest in the next generation!

BECKVILLE SOFTBALL 2022

For three years’ devotions have been provided for Beckville football and boys’ basketball teams. Prayers have been spoken and conversations have occurred, but during these three years we were not able to move into the girls’ sports. In June of 2021, Ronny Grandgeorge was hired as the new Softball coach for Beckville. You may say, so what does this mean? That is a very good question, because Ronny was one of the founding board members of Stepstones Ministry International. With Beckville making this hire, it opened access to the girls’ athletic program to begin sharing devotions with them. During the Spring of 2022, devotions were shared from I Samuel 16 & 17 concerning David’s development as a leader and being one whom God could use for His glory. Praise God for relationships and invitations that open avenues for declaring the gospel! FYI, this team was the undefeated district champions and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

JASPER MEN’S EVENT MARCH 19-20, 2022

It was a pleasure to be a part of a Men’s Event sponsored by FBC Newton, Texas and their new Pastor Kenny Rawls. We met at East Texas Baptist Encampment just outside of Newton. The men gathered on Friday evening March 19th and began with a meal. Following the meal, we entered a time of getting to know one another and then I spoke on the Law of the Harvest. Saturday morning, we gathered for breakfast and a second teaching time where I got to teach on God’s Implanted Seed from Ephesians. When this session was over we moved out to serve the encampment by clearing trails on their ropes course. The coarse had been damaged by the hurricane a few months prior. It was a joy to encourage and be encouraged by these men!

MARCH 2022 JEAN LAFITTE, LOUISIANA

During Spring Break 2022, it was a privilege to lead FBC Haslam and Believers Baptist Church out on mission to Jean Lafitte, Louisiana to help The Lighthouse Church recover from Hurricane Ida damage.  Following the storm in the Fall of 2021, for many months this church was a true lighthouse beyond the storm.  They collected work orders, supplies and coordinated volunteer groups to perform work order requests.  We were able to help immediately following the storm and met Pastor Chris Johnston.  During the Spring Break trip we were able to help the church take a step closer to physical restoration by rewiring the church and installing all new electrical sockets.  God’s provision is always exciting to experience as Ben Baskins a member of FBC Haslam was on the trip and had been working for an electrical contractor for ten months learning the necessary skills for this service opportunity.  The students from both churches were excellent learners and had a heart to serve. The students were taught how to wire the electrical sockets and then adults inspected the work before final placement in the electrical box.

CENTER ATHLETIC CHALLENGE SPRING 2022

Following the Center Roughrider 2021 football season, I approached the athletic director and presented a vision for developing student leadership in the program. After several weeks of processing and bringing other coaches into the conversation and development, a plan was agreed upon. On January 4, 2022, the leadership development plan was announced to the boy’s athletic program with the culmination and goal of attaining an invitation to a leadership camp experience known as Camp Extreme Blessing. The progression toward the camp was through a four tier process. Each tier lasted 6 weeks and all the objectives of each tier had to be met to advance to the following tier. Each tier was more challenging than the previous one. Some of the objectives were: assignments turned in on time, attendance, dressing for success once a week, service projects, personal buy in of the Five Pillars of Purple Up, language, notes of appreciation to coaches, teachers, support staff and administration. At the end of the fourth tier, there were 20 young men who had successfully completed all the objectives. As more details were shared with these young men, a few had family conflicts with the dates of Camp Extreme Blessing and four declined the invitation to attend camp because of the no electronics policy. There were 11 athletes and 3 coaches who accepted and attended Camp Extreme Blessing at the end of June 2022. More information on Camp Extreme Blessing will follow in a future post. Stay tuned!

BECKVILLE FOOTBALL DEVOTIONS 2021

During the Fall, I spent one afternoon each week with the Beckville Football Team helping with practice and then sharing a devotion with them.  The devotions were pointed toward our identity in Christ and developing leadership principles that would be beneficial on and off the field. This team had an outstanding season and were blessed to advance three games into the playoffs.

CENTER FOOTBALL ATHLETES & COACHES FALL 2021

The Fall of 2021 was an exciting time of speaking to athletes and coaches of Center ISD.  On Wednesdays I spoke four times, twice on the high school and twice on the middle school campuses.  The format was to speak and divide into connect groups where coaches asked questions to help athletes process and make personal application. Each week we covered a topic to help enhance the athletic culture through the five pillars of Purple Up.  The pillars are:

                        Commitment to Ownership

                        Commitment to Grit

                        Commitment to being a Blessing

                        Commitment to Connectivity

                        Commitment to the Process
